HELP US EXPAND OUR COMMUNITY BAKERY

‘Dear friends, customers and supporters of our bakery,
It is with great joy that we can thank you today for your continuous backing of our bakery. It is because of your generous donations that we have reached our fundraising goal and can now start preparations for expanding and upgrading the bakery.

We have been lucky enough to be able to keep baking throughout the ongoing Covid19 crisis and providing our communities and customers with fresh bread. The bakery upgrade and expansion plans had to be put on hold during the crisis, but we will resume as soon as possible. Watch this space!

Your Breaking Bread bakery team’

Our “Breaking Bread” bakery opened its doors in January 2019 and has been steadily growing. We would like to bake even more delicious artisan bread and offer more work opportunities to our volunteers, but for that we need to adapt additional space and buy another oven! Could you help us to achieve this?

“Breaking Bread” is an exciting collaboration between two local not -for-profit organisations; Camphill Shared Lives Communities ltd. (a community benefit society) which supports Esk Valley Camphill Community  and Common Cause Community Interest Company (which runs The Futurehealth Store, 25 Skinner Street in Whitby, home to our bakery).

The micro bakery aims to bring a spirituality back to bread, connecting it again to its roots as the staff of life, the heart of a meal, made with care and love, to be shared.

Community is fundamental to the ethos of the new bakery. Bakers include members of the Esk Valley Camphill Community, sharing their differing abilities and working together, whilst also developing training for members of the local Whitby area community to get involved and bake good bread. We are now looking to develop the bakery to increase numbers of baking days, bread baked and people involved.

The fundraising goal for this phase of the project is £11,000. This will allow us to convert additional space into a preparation room, buy another oven and various items of baking equipment, and raise our profile in the local area. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
